Sweetbay Magnolia in Central Pennsylvania

Leader: Lou Aronica

Date: Saturday, June 5th, 2010 Time: l0:00 am – 4:00 pm

We will investigate seeps on the flanks of South Mountain in Cumberland

County, Penna. Some of these seeps reportedly have Sweetbay Magnolia

(Magnolia Virginiana) growing on them.. Part of the purpose of this trip

will be to compare the similarities and differences of these seep habitats

and composition to those found in the fall line region of Maryland. Sweetbay

populations found here are considerable more inland than those found in

Maryland. Sweetbay hopefully will be in bloom on this date. WARNING:

As of the preparation of this announcement, I have as yet not visited these

locations, so some stumbling around may transpire on June 5th. This trip is

co-sponsored by Williams, Powell, Clark and Stoney Valleys Botanical Society

(WPCSV Bot. Soc)
