Speakers: Crispin Taylor and Jon Monroe

Topic: Crispin Taylor, CEO of the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB), will offer a brief history of the 100-year-old organization, as well as its current state and future trajectories. Crispin will discuss ASPB’s impacts on plant science research globally and its efforts to nurture future generations of plant scientists. We will then hear from career-long ASPB member Jon Monroe, an emeritus professor at James Madison University who will describe his laboratory’s ongoing research into the structure and function of starch-degrading enzymes, and in particular how insights from evolutionary relationships among land plants can inform this work.
